Jacob’s Story: Building Confidence, One Class at a Time

Associated Program: Employment Services

Jacob came to Columbia Ability Alliance with a clear goal: he wanted to work. But like many others, he found that most of the jobs he was interested in required a high school diploma. That barrier, paired with Jacob’s experience living with ASD and anxiety, made the path forward feel overwhelming.

With encouragement and support from his Employment Specialist, Jacob began to consider returning to school. Together, they explored options and created an actionable plan to help him succeed academically while still pursuing his career goals.

Now, Jacob is enrolled at Columbia Basin College and working toward his diploma. He continues to receive tutoring and coaching—especially in math, a subject that had previously felt out of reach. His Employment Specialist also supports him with job search activities, helping him build a foundation for meaningful employment once he graduates.

Jacob’s story illustrates the heart of the Employment Services program: helping clients navigate barriers, build confidence, and take steps toward lasting success. With personalized plans and compassionate support, Columbia Ability Alliance is helping Jacob achieve what once seemed impossible—and he’s just getting started.
