Washington State’s Basic Food program
Basic Food, also known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) or food stamps, helps people buy groceries. Eligible households receive an electronic benefits (EBT) card with monthly benefits to buy food at participating grocery stores and farmers markets.

At Columbia Ability Alliance, we proudly partner with People for People to offer assistance in navigating the Basic Food application process to eligible individuals. The Basic Food program, known nationally as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), is designed to supplement the diets of Washington residents with healthy, nutritious food.
Facts About Basic Food:
- Monthly benefits based on household size, income, and living expenses
- It does not matter your age, whether you have a home or are homeless, working or unemployed, able bodied or disabled, you may qualify
- Eligible households receive a Washington Quest Card (EBT card) to purchase food items each month.
Funded in part by the USDA Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. Basic Food is available to all regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age, disability, religion, or political belief.

If you qualify for Basic Food, you likely qualify for other state support, including:
- Home Energy Assistance: Discounts on your monthly gas and electric bills with a program called Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).
- Washington Lifeline: Discounted home phone or cell phone service from participating providers.
